Jama Masjid : The Marvel Of Mughal Era

Jama Masjid is a pretty famous historical landmark in Delhi. In the middle of Old Delhi also called Shahjahanabad , this massive structure made of sandstone and marvels was built by Shah Jahan in 1656. It is not suprising that it is crowded with visitors every now and then making it one of the most visited shrines too. Come Ramzan , the lane come alive at night-bathed in a festive spirit bringing to fore the cultural traditions of the old city.
Exploring my city, especially heritage, culture and food has always my foremost hobby. When I visited this historical monument I felt some kind of connection with this beautiful structure. As expected we took our shoes off at the entrance and continued to look around the central courtyard of the mosque. It boasts some lovely architecture, and gave some lovely views of the Red Fort. It wasn't long until my feet started to feel like they were burning on the sandstone floor of the mosque as it gets very hot in the heat of the sun. But the reflecting pond in the middle gave us a sigh of relief .

I sat in one corner where i saw people offering prayers and I closed my eyes and felt one with my inner self, as though I had attained inner peace.

The carvings and engravings on the walls and ceilings of Jama Masjid are beautiful and I was full of praises of the craftsmanship of the artisans. I left Jama Masjid with a heavy heart promising myself to return soon and walked towards Meena bazaar :The Charm of Jama Masjid. This market is located just below the massive stairs on the eastern end of Jama Masjid and is one of the busiest markets in Delhi with its endless stock of various items. My eyes enjoyed the sight of mouth watering street food on the way and we ended our journey with Chicken Biryani which was worth our visit to this magnificent place.
So, if you have still deprived yourself of a visit to this glorious monument, take the metro this sunday and do make it a point to visit it and hear the silent confidence. It stand silent and yet have confidently stood the test of time.
